happy tuesday, friends!
each morning (more or less) for the past few months i have been sitting down with my sketchbook + pen for some quiet art time. no rules, no expectations, no anticipation of what will be; rather, it is simply an opportunity to hush the busyness of life and lose myself in the creative moment for a little while. it is meditative and rewarding for me on many levels to simply devote my time + energy to this practice for the sole purpose of trying something i have always been afraid to do. i often revisit my sketches days later to paint or collage them, and others remain untouched - and let me tell you it is an exercise in self-control not to tear out the "bad" sketches, toss them away and pretend they never happened.
for me, this is about trying. just because.
i love how people like Donna, Julie and Blair have been sharing their work in sketchbooks online. it's so inspiring to see how others work and follow their inspirations + stories over time. this internet of ours is an amazing place, all at once connecting us from our tiny nooks in the landscape as we share our very separate lives. and while i love the solitude of my daily quiet time, i was thinking...
it would be wonderful to connect with you, to see what WE can make together.
so here's my idea:
each week i will share a simple sketch with you right here. i encourage you to print it off + make something with it. you could get the kids involved if you like, or keep the experience all to yourself - that's entirely up to you. print as many copies as you like and have at it. what will you make of it?
it's kind of like we all have the same page torn from a coloring book, only it's a bit more abstract in that my sketch will not define what you will make of it. it is simply a rough framework for you to complete as you see fit. cool?
then... and here comes the really fun part... i encourage you to post a photo of scan of your work online (on your blog/flickr/facebook/where ever) by Sunday each week and post a link in the comments right here so we can see what you made.
:
here's the first sketch for you to make your own [from 24-september-2012]
click the sketch below to enlarge + print + make it your own + share
so what do you say... will you join me?
post a pic of your work (or your child's or your spouse's or your co-worker's or your bestie's) and be sure to share a link to your image in the comments of this post by Sunday. then next Tuesday, i will post photos from this first week (with permission, of course) and present you with the next sketch. i am excited, and i hope you are as well. let's make together! xoxo
