with nearly four miles logged friday morning on a misty walk with a friend, and errands behind me, i made a little trip out in Amish country to visit a few of my favorite thrift/flea/antique spots. i rather enjoyed the quiet drive, and found such delightfully inspiring treasures along the way.
this week promises to be very full, making this solo trip all the more special for me. i feel a bit recharged and ready for all the happenings to come. and on the other side of it all, these pretty old things will be waiting for me. wishing you + yours a lovely week! xoxo
Confidence is something that I have had to work on at different times in my life. Every once in a while, I find myself having to stop and have a conversation with myself in the mirror. A little face-to-face with my face. I imagine the computer kids can use facetime technology for the same effect nowadays. Me, I still prefer the bathroom mirror. Depending on what challenge is arising at the time, it can play itself out more Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, or Stuart Smalley. Wikipedia says “Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, as those without it may fail or not try because they lack it, and those with it may succeed because they have it rather than because of an innate ability”. That Wikipedia is a pretty smart guy. Confidence and creativity go hand-in-hand, or at least face-to-face.
Noel Gallagher has a reputation of being a pretty confident guy. Some would say overconfident (read arrogant). From all the interviews I have read with him, I think he is really funny, really British, and really funnily British. And listening to his music over the years, his confidence has the songs to back it up. On his first post-Oasis solo effort, the self-titled “Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds” (Sour Mash Records, 2011), he delivers an album strong enough to continue backing up The World According to Noel. Check out the song “AKA ...What a Life” on Jools Holland’s show as proof -
While Paul Weller may have taken his fans on a surprise right turn with his Style Council post-Jam work, Noel Gallagher’s sound does not stray far from his work with Oasis. I would have been surprised, and probably disappointed if it did. I think he simply builds on what he did before. He keeps the basic British guitar rock/pop base, but now adds some killer well-placed strings, horns and choir backups to the mix. Reminiscent of the way the Rolling Stones played around with all these elements while still staying a rock band at their core. After all, who does not love a ragtime break down in a song. I know I do.
the week began slowly with a day off of school, which i used as an excuse to take the day off, as well. yes i did. but i got back on the treadmill the next day, thank goodness. a friend and i were able to get outside to walk together a few mornings, which broke up the monotony of my recent daily treadmill pattern with some fresh air and good conversation.
the week ahead promises to be all kinds of busy, so i am already strategizing when and how i am going to get my miles in. in the past, i haven't really given much thought to it - this would be the type of week that would get me off track and on the road to couchpotatoness. and that is not what i want to have happen, so i am actually writing my exercise time on the calendar as a reminder each day. do any of you do this? what do you do to stay on track when life gets overly busy? i'd love to hear what has worked for you.

This piece is knit in the round on double pointed needles - it is a terrific project for confident beginners looking to embark on knitting in the round. And with no seaming, this little number can be on and off the needles and onto the wearer in a day!
You'll need 200 yards of worsted weight wool + one set of five US 7 (4.5mm) double-pointed needles. I made both the samples shown using leftover stash yarns.

for the past several months, my creative space has been in limbo. and as a result, so has my rhythm (or lack thereof) of making. one thing i have been wanting to try for ages is cutting my own stencils and printing onto fabrics (using thisstuff). i've been doodling and planning and dreaming of all that i could make. and yesterday, i set aside some time to play a bit.
vintage linens were up first, and i couldn't resist grabbing a white t-shirt out of the girls' closet, too - just to experiment, you know. oh my goodness, the possibilities are endless, my friends. xoxo
