i am really excited to share my new projects + patterns this year, as many of them have been of the "secret" variety for so long. i had thought about releasing a proper "collection", but have chosen instead to release one project/pattern each week for the entire year. 52 projects, as it were. that's a big endeavor and it is proving more challenging than i had anticipated.
not because of a lack of material, oh no. i am just super excited to share it all with you.
that said, once a week is a strong and steady pace i can keep up with. and here's a little peek at two of my favorites coming soon to the Pattern SHOP. one of them as soon as this thursday. xoxo
I just read that Robert Hegyes died a few days ago. Known to 70‘s television fans as Juan Epstein of Mr. Kotter’s infamous Sweathogs crew, he was a character defined by his unique melding of ethnicities. See, Brooklyn was even open and cool back then.
Fast forward to 2012, we’re taking a trip down to South Carolina to check out the African-American/Filipino artist Toro Y Moi. His blend of ethnicities gives him a unique perspective on life and music, as further defined by his Spanish/French moniker. (Amazing, he goes by a stage name at all considering his real name is Chazwick Bundick. Kudos to your parents, Chazwick.)
On his new release,”Underneath the Pine” (Carpark Records, 2011), Toro Y Moi goes beyond the chillwave movement he started with, bringing his music out of the bedroom and onto the dance floor. Check out Toro Y Moi and the rest of the scooby gang in a cool Super 8 film for the great song “Still Sound”. Extra points for being part of the sweater-rock crew.
Good Stuff. And if that doesn’t get you moving and grooving on a Monday, then try out the song “New Beat” - if that one doesn’t work, then you may officially be dead.
Dear Mr. Kotter,
Please excuse Chazwick from class today. He was up all night channelling Daft Punk, Stereolab, and Yoshimi-era Wayne Coyne into one hot new album.
woo hoo! i needed a strong comeback after last week and hot damn i did it and then some. that's life, i suppose, full of ups and downs. and it's the getting back up that counts. xoxo
so how was your week? i have really been enjoying how some of you have been sharing your own personal fitness/wellness goals for the year in the comments each week. it's so great to hear your progress and share the journey with you. thanks for that!
i need to take a break from thinking about "what's next" and appreciate the journey so far.

whoah, babies! i remember writing this post a year after the photo was taken, marveling at how we made it from there to here, being thankful for the paths that led me to where i was. and not worrying about mis-steps along the way.

talk about a metaphor.
fast forward back to now, 2012. i stand at a crossroads. i stare curiously at my own big picture, trying to determine which road to travel next. which leap to take.
for so long it was me + them. them + me. US. now the girls are in school doing amazingly and my days are my own to manage + live as i wish. and frankly, it's makes my head spin. so much is possible. i know i can pretty much do anything if i put my mind to it. maybe not every thing, but indeed almost any thing. it's the choosing that can be overwhelming. not rushing into things while maintaining momentum and not dropping the ball is very tricky. which leap do i take next?
ah yes, this is definitely a transition year. what's next, i wonder. indeed, it's been lovely so far. xoxo
