i should have known i overdid it when the fellow at the farm declared, "good job! you've made it to the next price level!" oh dear. for the record, 30 pounds of freshly-picked strawberries yields roughly:
- 3 batches of freezer jam
- 2 batches of preserves (which i noticed after processing had turned out a bit runny, but will still taste of summertime when those jars are popped open throughout the coming year)
- 3 gallons of frozen whole strawberries (great for smoothies)
- 6 pints of frozen sliced strawberries (for muffins + bread)
- 2 quarts in the fridge + ready to eat
- one dozen frozen berry pops (place one strawberry on a stick, freeze it, then dip in melted dark chocolate. amen.)
- two dozen individual berries dipped in dark chocolate (for grandparents + friends, i swear)
- icy cold berrylicious smoothies daily (made w/ mickie's yogurt)
- one very exhausted Jennifer
we had such a blast stocking up + now we're looking forward to trying out some new recipes. i'm thinking of substituting strawberry mash for ripe bananas in my banana bread recipe this weekend and will be sure to report back the results. and i would love it if you would share your favorite strawberry recipes in the comments, as well! xoxo
