i finally made some time to sort out the tools that fill the drawer on was my worktable. things were getting out of hand, i tell you.
while snapping this photo, i realized i hadn't shared a proper peek into my little workspace/studio since its re-do at the end of november.
let's fix that, shall we?
everything was removed while it was painted a warm white, and only about half the "stuff" was brought back in. i have my work/cutting surface (a stainless steel restaurant kitchen table) under which are various bins + cubbies to keep everything in its place. then there are three vintage pieces (one for books + music, one filled + topped with with yarn, and the biggest with fabric, ahem). above everything i have ikea shelves lined with apple baskets + tins i use to organize/store "stuff" like embroidery floss, stamping + printing materials, ribbons + trim, etc. my ironing board is tucked back in that corner under the sparkly lights (more ikea), and i am able to open it along that short wall when needed, and hide it from view the rest of the time.
my pinboard is keeping all the goodies for book #2 on track beside my favorite patchwork wreath (make your own). and then there's my Amish-made desk that was my first "big" purchase when i was 22 and moved on my own to Vermont where I taught German part-time and waited tables at a ski resort to pay the bills (and get a ski pass). the desk was originally stained, but it was since painted white and was down in our basement for the past 9 years until now. i love having a bit of my own history in here, and it fits perfectly in this small space. my computer + sewing machine co-exist nicely, with nothing having to be moved out of the way to do one thing or the other. i keep my swift + ball winder attached to the corner of my desk at-the-ready and move them out when needed. and i've pared down the art + prints on the wall to a select few pieces that make me feel good. there's a little free/blank space, and that's fine with me - i like having areas where my eyes can rest among the white.
this space is like a breath of fresh air for me each morning. it's small, to be sure, but it's all mine and i love it. my mind sometimes wanders to the future and i dream of possibly being in a larger/shared space where i could teach as well - but right here right now i am happy. quite happy. xoxo

i do still have to address the "stuff" that didn't make it back in here, namely the several bins of fabric + yarn that are now in the basement. i imagine a studio sale coming in a month or so. or whenever i get my act together. let me get back to you on that.
