thanks for all the skirt love! a few more simple ones are in store in my attempt to multitask both whipping up summer clothes for the girls as well as finally using some of the gorgeous yardage i have in my stash. someone used the term "hamstering" in the comments yesterday, which made me think about how much i hem and haw about hanging onto fabric. no more letting it just sit there for us : i say, let the littles enjoy and live in the fabrics. let's make memories.
true to form, i winged the first dress using a great green deer print by jay mccarroll that has been sitting on my shelf for about a year. the design is pretty basic and still needs a bit of tweaking, but i know where i want it to go and be - simple to sew even for beginners, easy to wear for little girlys, and transitional in size so you can get a few years out of it. i've been revising variations of this dress idea for a while and hope to share it with you soon.
next i pulled out the amazingly light double gauze unicorns by heather ross and reached into my memory bank of having seen her on martha making the smocked sundress from her book. i actually have the book, but instead of taking the time to find it (translation: i was really excited and didn't want to stop what i was doing), i just winged it from what i remembered from the show. when i later located and checked the pattern in her book, i found that i had pretty much done what she outlined. and as an artist, i think she'd be happy i felt inspired and encouraged to wing it.
there you have it - two new dresses from le stash. and two happy girls who somehow seem to have grown a tremendous amount in the blink of an eye. we're all pretty jazzed about the dresses and are excited to have them in the queue for a few years. but more than that, i cherish these snapshots and how they are able freeze these days for us. xoxo
