it is done.
a few years back, i was commissioned to make a patchwork baby quilt that eventually made its way to the other side of the earth. it was a fun experience and i especially enjoyed collaborating with the lovely mama down under. so when she contacted me this past summer to request yet another larger quilt in a similar design, despite my decision to take time off of custom orders, i simply could not say no. loyalty runs both both ways. but with life being what it is, i told her this one would take a while - and it has.
this past week, as i spent a few hours each evening hand-stitching the binding and bringing the project to a close, it hit me : this piece has been through a lot with me this past half year, and i am uplifted by seeing it completed - the quilt made it through in one piece, as it were. and so did i. so yes, i confess to being a little misty-eyed last night near midnight when the last thread tail was hidden, tugged + snipped. and i am beyond thrilled to be sending it half a world away to its new home, where it will begin a new life. just as i am doing. xoxo
