after years of seeing mama make sushi for lunch and turning their otherwise-spectacular-eater noses up at it, the girlys have finally come around. they finally asked - no, it was begging - that we make "shu-shi" for dinner.
okay. twist my arm.
they nibbled on nori and veggies while i chopped, rolled little rice balls to pop into their mouths, and delighted in each making a roll with their absolute favorite ingredients. both requested goat cheese, but since none was in the house, they ended up sprinkling on some cheddar - granted, tomato may not be traditional, but it was a hit nonetheless. a few little extras on their plates and dinner was declared a success.
the hub and i declined the cheddar in favor of the crunchy veggies along with shrimp + avocado + sriracha which resulted in an "ewww!" or two. but hey, a meal is not a meal without at least one "ewww", i suppose. in any case, i think it's safe to say we turned a corner. and if i leave the door open and wait patiently, one of these days they will ask for lobster again. xoxo
