one of my dearest friends is among other things, a miracle worker - mother to an incredible adult son with autism and two equally amazing women (one a nurse and the other a genetic counselor). she and some other dedicated families have been working together to create new opportunities for adults with autism and have recently become recipients of a tremendous gift - a farm, actually.
the farm will begin serving participants this Spring planting season. here's a bit more - "Hiram Farm Living and Learning Community is a non-profit organization striving to offer day habilitation for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), providing an environment where individuals can grow, learn, work, and live after high school. this organic farming community on 80 acres in Hiram, Ohio will provide a place for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder to engage in meaningful physical activity in a consistent, stable environment where work and leisure activities are based on individual need and skill level."
one of my quilts will be auctioned as a part of their benefit this coming weekend - it's exciting to know that as the days get longer, sunnier and a bit warmer... that the coming change of seasons brings with it such hope and opportunity. new life, indeed. xoxo
