here's a little tutorial for a project i'll be sharing with you next week. despite its obvious attraction, i was always a bit put off by the picot edge, more than likely because of the extra time involved at the end of a project when you really just want it to be done and not have to do anything else. but let me share a secret with you :: it's not difficult at all, doesn't take much extra time and if you work your entire project toward that edge (instead of picking up stitches for the edge), it's an effortless transition that is supercute and totally worth it. ready steady?
you've got your project working top-down (toward the hem) and you've switched to the CC for the edge:
- k 1 round
- p 1 round
- k 2 rounds
- [k2tog, yo] rep to end
- k 2 rounds
- BO and pull tail through last loop
- cut tail about 1-2 yards (you will use this to sew the hem)
now fold it over toward the WS and start stitching the hem to get that lovely little nubby ruffly edge:
- starting with your last BO stitch, go up through it and pick up that last WS loop of the color you worked in the last section
- go back down through the same loop you came up through on the BO edge
- now repeat this progressing through every next stitch in the BO edge
- and so on and so on
totally worth a little extra effort, right? i'll be back monday to share the project - something special for little girls. (surprise surprise, i know.) have a lovely weekend! xoxo
