the final stitches were pulled into place tuesday evening, then it enjoyed a nice wash+dry wednesday, giving it that cozy quilty look - so now i can officially declare it "done".
this project has been keeping me busy the past few months - a special request from a world away for a special little boy. a disappearing nine-patch with dozens of friendly faces to inspire his imagination and keep him company for a long time.
when deciding how i wanted to quilt it, i did the tried and true stitch-in-the-ditch around each of the quarters. super simple, super great... but it needed more. so, i took a few days and thought about it :: how it was created by assembling, disassembling and then reassembling. i was struck by the journey of the quilt - how the idea has traversed time and distance (3 continents, in this case) and how it will ultimately travel thousands of miles to its new home. and you know what? it was right there in front of me - i let the stitches travel the paths of the quilt, without a set route, but definitely touching down everywhere, connecting here and there until ultimately reaching its end point. eventually.
i love how blogging and etsy (and the internet as a whole) have connected me with people here, there and everywhere. it has allowed me to create and experiment and enjoy being a maker of things, once again. i am continually inspired, challenged, and blessed to see and learn things i never knew were out there; things i never imagined i'd want to do.
i mean, come on now... i would so not have believed you if you had told me that a tutorial for binding a quilt would give me such a thrill. but it did - just get a load of those mitred corners.
have a lovely weekend - see you in a few! xoxo
