we three
a few weeks ago i came across the amazing work of tiel, an artist and illustrator with a delicate and whimsical style i immediately fell in love with. what caught my eye on flickr was the trio of soft dolls she had just completed, sewn in linen with hand embroidery and lots of love. i contacted her to see if she would consider creating a trio of mama and her twin daughters for us to welcome into our home. my initial thought was to have the trio join in on the growing Etsy art gallery that is accumulating in the duo's room. but as soon as i saw these lovelies, i knew they belonged in our living room.
like our girls, they are petite, very expressive, and made from the same "ingredients". yet, they are each a beautiful and unique creation. simultaneously the same, and different ::
and what made me weepy, what i found to be an exceptionally beautiful detail, was the embroidery on the mama's belly. how it echoes the fabrics on the reverse of the girls. the same yet different. a symbol of how mama will always support them. and each of the girls carries a flower of the mama's reverse fabric along with her as well. i love how the three are undeniably related, connected, while remaining unique beings, each lovely and ever-so special ::
thank you, tiel. we love them and will cherish them always. xoxo

a very touching story. I am always amazed at how many layers of meaning and connection we put in our work without realising and how that often speaks to just the right person. I'm sure she's delighted they have gone to a home where they will be loved.
