a few years back, dh and i spent our vacation in maine at a remote cottage north of camden with the most gorgeous view of the penobscot bay from our deck. kayaking, deep-sea fishing and lots of card playing - my personal week's quest was to eat lobster at least once a day. one of my sketchbooks documents the various lobster rolls with their buttery buns, mmm. i love maine. and all of new england for that matter. we look forward to taking the girlies there someday. to dip their toes into the cool water and breathe the crisp clean air.
when i was still teaching, i twice participated in the Deutsche Woche at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor. but since these little lovelies have entered my life, i had almost forgotten about the incredible immersion week with fellow Deutschlehrer that takes place every august, giving colleagues from across the country a rare opportunity to live and collaborate with fellow Multiplikatoren for an entire week. i send them all my fond wishes for a fabulous and productive week together by the sea.
inspired by my friends and colleagues while the duo and i were at the market, i decided it was time to give them a down-east treat for lunch. they were, however, more interested in the creature aspect than the delicate sweet taste. tossing bits of lobster on the floor may have pleased the cat, but we did a switch-a-roo soon after. they had toast and jam and mama had a lobster sandwich, which tasted of cherished memories. all this from the table with my precious duo, right where i want to be.
