30-june-2005 : after organizing my yarn and bagging everything last week (what fun that was), i decided to get moving on something other than a scarf. (note to self: post picture of the many many scarves knit while pregnant) so anyway, to ease back into things, i am working on a fisherman-type sweater for my babes. i adapted the basic structure for "first sweater" from knit it! 2004 and used a moss/seed stitch up the sides and a honeycombed pattern up the middle.
this picture of the back is a bit hazy since i didn't use a flash (with flash it was too washed out, couldn't appreciate the pattern) x i'm almost done the front now, too. must get to the YS this weekend (hopefully) to buy another skein for the sleeves. our two local shops are challenging if you have kids - i understand that they want to display as much stock as possible, all power to them, it looks great. but you cannot get a stroller in there (i have twins) and they close by 5pm. i am really going to have to start ordering yarn by mail. the only reason i haven't yet is because i fear addiction will overtake my life and we will all be buried alive by my yarn orders.
1-july-05 : eeeeeeeek! i finished the front last night but don't have nearly enough yarn left to even think about beginning the sleeves. boo hoo! but..... not being one with idle hands, i've started a headband in mermaid - never know when i'll actually get to the YS for the baby angler skein.
2-july-05 : actually got to the YS this morning, although i had to sit in the parking lot and wait for them to open LATE which drove me a little bonkers since i only had a few minutes while dear hubby watched the twins before work. on the plus side, i got to listen to car talk for 10 extra minutes. half full, baby! the yarn is sirdar denim chunky, 60% acrylic 25% cotton 15% wool. nice to work with and will be soft for the babes, but it was almost $11(US) for the one skein. why do i go to that YS??? definitely going to look through some yarn catalogs later today :-)
6-july-05 - knitting is finished and the little baby aran is blocking away on the DR table. hopefully i'll get a chance to stitch it together later on and do the collar - definitely a boatneck to fit over those big baby noggins! x OK, it's pretty much blocked (needs a little tweeking), so here are the goods pre-assembling:
7-july-05 - working on the neck - at first i picked up the stitches and did a k1p1k2p1 repeat around then decreased all the k2 into k1.... BUT after i cast off the whole thing i discovered that it barely fit over their heads *now* which means that by late autumn it most definitely would not fit, grrrrr. soooooooooo, i frogged the neck and did it again k1p1 with only 4 evenly spaced k2 throughout (decreasing them to k1 on the 2nd time around) which gave a slightly less tubular-mock-T look. ...next time i post it will be all done - YAY!
19-july-05 - it's done! it's done! it's done! here are the girlies all ready for the winter - it's obviously really roomy, but the idea is that by late autumn it will fit perfectly and keep them oh-so-cozy. pic on left is hazy b/c i did it sans flash but you can really appreciate the honeycomb that way. don't they look happy? xoxo
